About PercentPoint
First published · Last reviewed
PercentPoint is a small collection of free calculators for everyday school and work math: GPA and course grades for students and parents, fractions and percentages, pay questions such as raises, overtime and paid time off, and pricing, commission and advertising math for people who sell things. Each page answers one practical question and shows exactly how the answer was reached.
How the calculators are built
- Published rules. Grade scales and weighting come from College Board’s BigFuture, school district grading policies and university registrars. Pay rules come from the U.S. Department of Labor, federal regulations and the IRS; math methods from open college textbooks and NIST; pricing formulas from university extension guides and published fee schedules. Each page lists its sources and assumptions.
- Tested math. Every formula has automated tests, including the worked examples printed in those sources, so a change that breaks a published example is caught before it goes live.
- Editable assumptions. Schools and businesses do things differently. Bonuses, cutoffs and targets are inputs, not hidden constants.
What the calculators are not
They are planning tools. Your transcript, your syllabus and your instructor decide your grades; your own costs and records decide your prices. Nothing on this site is financial, tax, legal or academic advice. See the methodology page for how pages are reviewed.
Independence
The site is free to use and shows no ads today; it may carry advertising in the future. No school, publisher or software company pays to be mentioned, and sources are chosen because they publish the rule or number we use.
